From Cline to Common Formme – A New Chapter in Design

We’re excited to share that Cline Company is evolving -- our new name is Common Formme. Common Formme is the same design-build firm our clients know and trust, now articulated around a more refined vision and intentional approach to design, wellness, materials, and the way people live in their homes.

I (Emily) have been immersed in this business for as long as I can remember. My mom, Tami Cline, has spent decades creating beautiful, well-built spaces, and my dad laid the foundation as a general contractor. I remember being six or seven, creating 3D panoramas out of shoeboxes of exactly what I wanted my bedroom to look like -- complete with Pottery Barn bedding, an IKEA hanging swing, and, of course, bright purple walls. I knew how to communicate my vision, just like my momma! I also swore I’d never be a designer (I think I said something like “I will N3vEr bE @ dE$igner”), but life has a funny way of working out.

After spending several years planning weddings, I realized I wanted something more and stepped into the family company. As my own passions in wellness and clean living took shape, I began talking with clients about how to incorporate these practices into their homes. Over the last couple of years, that vision has only grown stronger as I’ve recognized an opportunity -- and a need -- to take our work further: to create homes that don’t just look beautiful, but that also support the health, relationships, and nervous systems of the people who live in them.

There was a time when I wondered if I should step away from design to focus on wellness, but I soon realized they were deeply connected in the work I wanted to do. That realization became Common Formme: the same trusted design-build firm, now with a sharper focus on intentional, health-centered spaces and materials that enhance everyday life.

I know -- I’ve mentioned wellness and health in relation to homes several times now, and you may be wondering, what does that actually mean? It begins with ensuring watertight and airtight homes, and working with clients to find solutions that keep mold, toxins, and chemicals out of our spaces. From there, we layer in more. Materials are central to everything we do -- the wood you touch, the stone under your feet, the textures and finishes in every room. Each choice is intentional, designed to support comfort, well-being, and a sense of calm. For me, a home should feel alive, restorative, and grounding.

We’re continuing to serve our clients during this evolution while slowly bringing the Common Formme identity to life. Soon, we’ll open our showroom in downtown Edmonds, where our approach to holistic, intentional design can be experienced firsthand.

Common Formme is more than a name -- it’s the same trusted team, guided by a renewed vision: intentional, soulful design that nurtures wellness, connection, and living well. To say this evolution is a dream come true is an understatement. We’re so dang excited to invite our clients and community to join us on this journey of making homes healthy -- wherever you are.
